ACCIDENT: Do the right thing

| December 14, 2011 9:00 PM

On Saturday night/early Sunday morning, my beautiful granddaughter, Jessica, was downtown with her husband and friends, and while she was crossing the street IN a crosswalk at Second and Lakeside, she was hit by a red truck and left lying on the frozen street. Of course, the red truck did not stop, but sped away.

Who are you, that you would leave a beautiful young woman in the street, injured with a broken back, and not care enough to stop to see if she was all right? We would like to know.

My sweet granddaughter is a 22-year-old working mother of a 2-year-old who is confused as to why her mommy is lying in a hospital bed and can't go home with her and daddy. Jessica suffered several injuries because of someone's irresponsibility.

If you are that person, please have mercy on this young woman, who celebrated her birthday in the hospital, and come forward. Yes, you were negligent. Yes, you will be prosecuted. I will say this: If she hadn't survived this accident, you would have murder hanging over your head.

And correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that leaving the scene of an injury accident is a felony. If anyone knows who this person is, will you please call the Coeur d'Alene police and let them know what you know? There are cameras all around at that corner. They will find you out sooner or later. I pray that you will do the right thing.
