WOLVES: Cutthroats walk on two legs

| December 2, 2011 8:00 PM

Wolves kill for sport? C'mon, Bruce Eggleston, letter of Nov. 27. Man is the only creature that I've ever heard of killing for entertainment. And please don't throw me that red herring about needing to hunt to feed the family; that applies to a tiny percentage of our "mighty hunters." Typically, hunters use technology to ambush the best and strongest of whatever species so that they may hack their heads off and mount them on their walls to impress other "mighty hunters." There's no sport involved.

Now, think about this: Man keeps taking the strongest animals out of the herd (for fun, mind you). Being dead, these can no longer reproduce, so the gene pool of the species is inexorably diluted. Soon enough the whole species is weakened and becomes more vulnerable to natural predators who MUST kill for food. The whole system is out of whack. It was balanced and working fine before the advent of the technological "mighty hunter." I have yet to see humans "manage" a natural system nearly as well as the Creator made it.

Let's be honest: The war on wolves is one of competition. The "mighty hunters" blowing critters out of existence for "fun" cannot abide competition. Why, we even call the killing "harvesting" and "taking" to make it seem more civilized. But don't worry, "mighty hunters," wild animals are doomed. Just go to certain ranches and blast fenced-in animals. Enjoy yourself without competition.
