RANGE: Good plan shot down
I am stunned at Judge Mitchell's decision not to open the shooting range at Farragut State Park. Just looking at the picture shown in The Press on Aug. 26, I see that there is no possible way for a bullet to go out. Even if one did, a mile of thick woods is between the range and the nearest house.
I have shot at shooting events there for 40-plus years and there has never been a documented case of a bullet hitting any house. This is a rural area where hunting is allowed as well as casual shooting. As for shooting noise, a truck going down the road makes far more noise than the shooting.
All I can tell Jeanne Hom-Holder is that her children are far more likely to be hit by a piece of space junk than by a bullet. Our area is full of hunters and shooters. Idaho Fish & Game is just trying to develop a safe place for them to pursue their sport. A regulated shooting range is far safer then a target set out in a field. Much of the hunter safety training can be done at the range, teaching the safe use of firearms.
Let's face it. If you move in next to a hog farm, you smell hogs. Live with it, people.
