EASTON: Meeting lacked key people
I attended the Camp Easton meeting Wednesday night. Two and only two members of the 58 (45?) people who will make the final decision on this swap were in attendance. Why? I asked if there was another meeting scheduled; my question was never answered. Why?
A meeting is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Millwood, at the Presbyterian Church, 3223 N Marguerite Road in Spokane. Something that was never mentioned is the piece of land, 260 acres for Camp Easton's 380 acres, is on the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation. Why?
You wonder why there is such a distrust of the Washington contingency of BSA by Idahoans, I believe some of that comes because of things that I just mentioned. There was a lot of emotional testimony Wednesday night, but the people who should have heard it weren't even there.
No one was properly prepared to answer questions about finances - why? Where was the council financial officer? How much to repair present Camp Easton? Build a tunnel? Fence the place, like Camp Four Echoes has been for 30 years?
Run a capital campaign that involves THIS community for Camp Easton ONLY. Did you all think this would go down quietly? I signed up to help, but it won't be to replace Camp Easton, it will be to KEEP Camp Easton at its present location, as the folks who donated the land intended.
