Some people, when elected to an office which allows them to spend other people's money, have a transformation come over them. The rules they apply to their personal finances go out the window. They find that they can grant "favors" in return for "gratuities" and the system breaks down.
We really need serious, automatic penalties for fraud in public office. We see plenty of the problem locally as well as at the state and federal levels. Now is the time for the people to come together to address this.
