CYCLES: Sport deserves coverage
Does anybody who reads The Press know that a recent event at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds attracted two of the top four ranked competitors in the nation in their respective racing field? How about four of the competitors at this event competed in the X-Games in Los Angeles just the week prior? Do readers know that for entertainment an X-Games bronze medalist was also there performing? I can answer that: Probably not.
Press readers know the weekly results from Stateline Speedway and of many other incredible individuals who compete locally and nationally in their own sport, which is great! However, I'm still bewildered why a local paper that is reporting local sports can completely ignore local motorcycle events that consistently pack the Fairground grandstands and attract top national talent.
Why? If it's simply being unfamiliar about the sport of motorcycle racing, then speak to Chaun McAlister, the promoter of the events, and I'm sure the reporter will come away with a better understanding and possibly an appreciation for the sport. Motocross, Endurocross, Arenacross, whatever the event is, there is an audience that will appreciate press coverage. I know the children who race, some as young as 4 would appreciate the coverage. I challenge The Press to take a chance, readers might like it.
Try covering the sport on August 24 and 25, there will be a motocross event at the Fairgrounds. Talk to the riders and the fans, I'm sure you will find an exhilarating story.
