Cd'A River Ranger District closes portion of Forest Road 1551

Due to construction activities associated with the Jack Waite Mine and Mill Site Removal and Reclamation Project, the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District has closed a portion of Forest Road 1551 to address forest visitor and construction worker safety.

That portion of Forest Road 1551, 1.8 miles east from its junction with Forest Road 2349 to its junction with Forest Road 152, will be intermittently closed on a daily basis.

The closure allows for unrestricted public passage at night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and passage by escort during the day between the times of 9-9:30 a.m., noon to 12:30 p.m., and 3-3:30 p.m.

The project involves the transport of nearly 200,000 cubic yards of earthen material, tailings and waste rock to create an on-site repository.

Once completed, the mine reclamation project will improve water quality, fish habitat, vegetation recovery and overall site safety.
