VOTERS: You've got to be kidding

It's a great idea that County Clerk Cliff Hayes has decided to verify the legitimacy of the 68,000 estimated voters in Kootenai County (Coeur d'Alene Press, front page, Aug. 6), especially since 30 percent of those I.D.s already checked have not matched up with their registration.

But really, randomly checking only 25 registrations per week will take 50 MORE YEARS TO COMPLETE! (Yes, this is correct, at 25 per week times 52 weeks = 1,300 per year divided into the 65,000 unchecked registrations = 50 years).

I guess you could agree with Cliff that his staff is "pacing themselves!"

I do hope that Clerk Hayes' other projects are a little more ambitious.
