LETTERS: Show a little respect

As a local citizen, I enjoy reading The Press "Opinions" section. I value others' opinions as I find many to be insightful, informative and entertaining.

I understand that some folks are as passionate about their politics and religion as I am about sports. What I don't understand is why so many opinions of late call out a writer by name and use very mean-spirited language as a personal attack. It reads like an escalating, volatile situation. Was it supposed to be an invitation to your group's meeting?
