CHICKENS: Key to going green

| August 3, 2011 10:00 PM

I am writing with the hope to change the future of Post Falls residents lives for what I feel is beneficial in so many ways.

This spring my husband and I wanted to buy some chickens to raise in our backyard. We felt that our 2-year-old would enjoy raising them, learning to take care of something and in return they take care of us. After asking neighbors if they would mind, we got some, gave them a clean loving environment in our fully fenced in backyard and garden that they have free range to. They make very little noise and are so beneficial to us. We have a healthy lawn with no chemicals, they eat every pest they can get their beak on, and they turn it all into a treasure in the form of fertilizer. Their poo makes for a wonderful balanced compost pile.

Last week however, we received a citation from P.F. animal control stating that we have a week to get rid of them. We have been doing our homework and have found out that many surrounding cities have changed their ordinance to make it OK to have these wonderful pets. We need any and all the support of Post Falls residents to help us convince City Council that they are not a nuisance but a very beneficial addition to our going green generation.
