RURAL: Threat to healthy lifestyle

| April 27, 2011 10:00 PM

I live at the far west end of Spirit Lake in a wonderful quiet area. That lifestyle is threatened by a proposal coming up for consideration by the Board of County Commissioners on April 28. That proposal would permit commercial development everywhere in the county.

The many hours of hearings which preceded the recently adopted comprehensive plan showed clearly that a vast majority of the residents value our county's current lifestyle - one tending toward the rural and bucolic wherever possible and preserving those less developed areas within the county.

The proposed amendment would allow commercial development throughout the county. It guts existing zoning restrictions and opens up the entire county to unneeded and unwanted commercial development.

Protect your property values and your neighborhood. Let the commissioners know that you oppose this change.
