PREDATORS: One strike, they're out

| April 24, 2011 10:00 PM

I am writing this letter because I fervently support the efforts by the remaining Groene family in their fight toward establishing the "One Strike Law" against violent sex offenders. I am appalled at the leniency afforded to sex crimes while relatively minor drug users and misdemeanor law-breakers are exacerbating an already overworked legal system.

Every judicial employee would love to be spending more effort prosecuting the more serious crimes, but are bound by the current laws - therefore offenders like Mr. Duncan are all too often set free to eventually abscond, rape, torture and murder - all because a parole board and judge had a set of laws to follow regarding "rehabilitation."

By the way, we are not referring to such cases as statutory rape between two teenagers, or even a more heinous crime such as date rape; this is not a boilerplate "get ‘em all" law, just one targeting all the Duncans still out there. It's too late for Brenda, Mark, Slade and Dylan, but by becoming proactive we can perhaps save others' lives.

Please follow the links on the website: http://www.onestrikeforlife.com/ and contact as many legislative representatives as you can. So many people, not just in our community, but nationwide, no, WOLRDwide, feel strongly about this issue - so let's do something about it!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider the rights of the victims rather than the predators!
