Eva Mellick, 88
Eva Mellick, 88, of Worley, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend went home to with the Lord on April 20, 2011, at her home in Cave Bay surrounded by her family. Eva was born May 22, 1922, to Frank and Edith Wright in Missouri and moved to Worley where she lived most of her life within 10 miles of her home.
She met and married Richard Mellick in 1940. Eva's greatest love was her family. She loved to garden, canning for family, friends and neighbors. Loved the slippers she knitted for everyone. She kept a daily diary and when memory faltered she had her records to recall time and events.
There was never a person that Eva disliked, she found good in everyone. Eva was a very hard working woman, spending many years as a cook at the Thompson Cafe' and at Leo's Club to name a few... She was the best pie baker in the country.
Later she and Red built and operated the little Drive-Inn in Plummer that is now the Gate Way Cafe. People drove miles for her Coney Islands at the Drive Inn. Eva was a member of the Worley Community Church.
She is survived by her son, Dennis; grandchildren, Cindy Dretke-Mellick, Bill Mellick, Brenda Mellick (Morris) and Scott Mellick, all of Worley, and Stewart Mellick; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother Ben Wright of Elk, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Worley Cemetery. Our family would like to thank all those who have shown love and support during this time of illness and loss.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Worley Community Church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home, Fairfield, Wash., is in care of the arrangements.
