GREENHOUSE: Deny effects at kids' peril

| April 17, 2011 10:00 PM

This letter was sent to Raul Labrador, Jim Risch and Mike Crapo:

I am a resident of Harrison and an Environmental Science Undergraduate at the University of Idaho. Although long concerned with the effects of unfettered capitalism, my focus over the last three years has convinced me that we are on a collision course with Mother Nature. As we increase our egregious abuses of the only planet we know, we will be forced to bear the consequences.

Our children will look back on these times and wonder how on Earth we could have been so callous and shortsighted. We are, at this very moment, stealing the future that belongs to our descendants.

Your votes to undermine our accountability will follow you to the grave. Unfortunately, your decisions affect the citizens whom you represent, as well. I understand your time is limited and that assuaging those who finance campaigns is critical. However, I implore you, make the time and effort to learn the truth about greenhouse gases and their pervasive effects. Even the doubting scientists funded by the Koch brothers have admitted the error of their thinking. It is time that the men who represent Idaho at the national level do the same.

For sanity and true conservative action,

SUSAN MELKA

Harrison
