CANDIDATES: Be wary of motives
I have read the articles on two of the incumbents running for the May 17 election of Lakes Highway District board members. Chris Kraft states that his experience as a farmer is invaluable to running a multi-million dollar highway district. The only real qualification that Mr. Craft has is being a former employee who maintained the roads during the summer and plowed the snow during the winter.
Ms. Fountain states that she has 30 years of financial experience working for the Lakes Highway District, Crown Pacific, Diamond International and Forest Steel. It appears from Ms. Fountain's list of former and current employer, Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency, that she doesn't stay at a position for any period of time. All of the above listed employers are stable employers who pay more than minimum wage salaries. Good jobs in North Idaho are hard to find and it begs to question why would anyone leave such employers.
It appears that since both candidates are former Lakes Highway District employees that the real reason they are running for the Board of Commissioners is that they were disgruntled employees who are seeking payback. As constituents of the Lakes Highway District we should ask ourselves if these two former employees have the qualifications necessary to manage our tax dollars.
