COLUMN: Offended by sexist remarks
Let's get a couple of things straight, Nils Rosdahl. When the National College Women's basketball players are on the court they are women athletes, not "ladies," and they wear uniforms, not "outfits." You may find more "interesting" outfits in a department store but what you seem to be alluding to can be found in Playboy Magazine.
What an incredible insult to all women athletes, of which I have two. Just what I aspire for my daughters, someone making money off them wearing more "interesting outfits" and underscoring their achievements as hard-working athletes. Well, it would be more interesting if men basketball players ran up and down the court in Speedos, and let's take the helmets off football players so we can see their faces.
These athletes are women who train just as hard as men and are just as interesting to watch no matter what they are wearing! How dare you suggest they are not interesting, and how dare you suggest they should change what they wear to stimulate your interest! These are not "ladies" that do tea in dresses and hats; these are hard-working athletes that train their butts off to play in the National College league. I am embarrassed in 2011 that a sexist remark like this would be made in my local newspaper, and will be even more appalled if this is allowed to slide without a retraction from the Coeur d'Alene Press and/or a resignation from the writer.
Mother of two interesting athletes,
