April is the prime month for the viewing of the falls in Post Falls. All of this recent rain, the thawing snowpack and the swollen rivers are cause for opening the gates wide.
On Sunday, when the river was going through the gates at 20,000+ cubic feet per second, there were crowds of families in Falls Park enjoying the incredible sight and sound of the roaring falls. The accessible overlook is THE place to be right about now.
Getting outside one's comfort zone is a good thing. On Thursday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort some wonderful women who are not models will be models for the Women's Council of Realtors Annual Style Show. They've worked for weeks with Linda Davis and Lori Payton transforming their personal style and received make-over hair styles from Suzanne Caliger.
Kudos to these fearless women who will walk the runway ... Stephanie Davenport, Candy Inbody and her daughter, Daisy, Jennifer Jenkins, Loretta Reed, Jennifer Riley, Jill Satterly, Peggy Sawicki, Janna Scharf, Antigone Twidt and Rebecca Walsh.
Generation RX Drug Abuse is a free Lunch and Learn hosted by the Kootenai Alliance for Children and Families on Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, 625 Haycraft Ave. in Coeur d'Alene. I know there are many in our community who routinely run marathons, compete in Ironman and the like but for me walking four miles on the Centennial Trail on Saturday during a hail storm, in the rain and wind was huge! My sister, Janna, talked me into doing Bloomsday this year for the first time so a wee bit of conditioning is necessary. Between us we've lost a combined 120 pounds in the last several months so it makes sense to celebrate by doing something physical and doing it with our great friends from OptiFit.
The Spring Dash is coming up soon so we might have to tune up there, too. If you have a fun or inspirational story about doing the Dash or Bloomsday, send it to [email protected].
Love this event name ... Steak and Fish for Make a Wish, and it's a great cause, too. Next Tuesday night the Dockside restaurant at The Coeur d'Alene Resort is hosting a kick-off event to celebrate the opening of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho's regional office in Coeur d'Alene. Dinner, silent auction, entertainment. Yours truly is honored to be emceeing the evening. Contact April Needham for tickets at 208-415-0109.
Tony's on the Lake is an iconic and cozy out-of-the-way restoranti and Friday night the place was aglow with local luminaries ... Ruth Pratt, Deanna Goodlander, David and Roberta Larsen, John Little, Mark Mahalek, Pam and Rich Houser ... to name a few.
Happy Birthday tomorrow to James George, Melaine Collins, Mary Epstein and Eli Gonzales. The vivacious and ageless Amy Bartoo is trying the big 5-0 on for size, sharing her Friday birthday with Lee Periman, Greg Prado and Shanna Riske. On Saturday Marvin Erickson, Carol Graham, Tom Messina and Jodi McKenzie will blow out their candles. Sunday's birthday girls are Sharon Finnerty and Dianna Scott. Come Monday Patrick Jacobs, Lonna Duncan, Idella Mansfield, Karen Reagan and DiAnna Macklin will get their party on. And April 12 is the birthdate of Mallory Stubblefield and Connie Monk. Celebrate!
