| September 29, 2010 1:24 PM

Rose Young, 82, passed away peacefully September 18, 2010 at her home in Coeur d'Alene, after a short battle with cancer. She was a 30 year resident of Coeur d'Alene.

Rose was born June 5, 1928 to Reginald Francis and Mae Beecroft in Belfast Ireland, She was the oldest of 17 children. At the age of 8, the family moved to London where her father drove a bus for the London City tram/ trolleybus system.

She cherished her fondest memories as a young girl growing up in the city of London. Rose and her siblings were evacuated on several occasions from London during WWII and sent to the countryside to live with strangers. As a teen, she worked various jobs to help with the war efforts and support her family. She loved to go dancing and was very good at roller skating.

At the age of 16, she met the handsome American Sgt. Logan Young from the Army Air Corps who was on leave after his plane was shot down over Germany. They were married in London May 16, 1945. When the war was over, she left her family, and embarked on the S.S. President Tyler, a ship of war brides bound for America. The ship landed on Ellis Island in New York, where they were given a grand tour of the city and sent out to their new homes by train. Rose traveled all the way across America to her new husband Logan and life in Pacific Grove, Calif. She returned to England to visit her family in 1975 and again in 1995.

Rose and Logan had three children, Cindy, Darryl and Terry, who were raised in Northern California. Rose was a strong independent woman, full of life and young at heart. There was always a twinkle in her eye with her never ending colorful sense of humor and positive outlook on life. She was always ahead of the game, intelligent, well read and a master at scrabble and word puzzles. She loved to play bingo with her girlfriends and had a strong social circle of wonderful ladies.

Rose is survived by her son, Terry Young (Veronica) of Hayden, ID, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many sisters, brothers, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Logan Young, daughter Cynthia Shilts, and son Darryl Young.

Rose wrote these beautiful words of comfort for those she left behind:

For those I love, for those who loved me:

When I am gone, Release me let me go,

I have so many things to see and do

You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears

I gave my love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown

But now it's time to travel alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grief you must

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It is only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories that lie within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on,

But if you need me call and I will come...

Though you can't see me or touch me I'll be near,

And if you listen with your heart you'll hear all the love around you soft and clear...

And then when you must come this way Alone. I'll greet you with a smile and welcome Home.
