Robert E. Michel, 72

| September 29, 2010 1:20 PM

Robert "Bob" Michel of Hayden, ID, passed away at home as he wished, on Sept. 17, 2010. Bob was born in Greely, Colo., to Jacob and Elizabeth Michel who were Russian/German immigrants. Bob and his mother moved to Rathdrum after his father's death. There Bob attended Rathdrum High School. Bob always remembered Rathdrum and his classmates fondly and considered Rathdrum "home."

Bob had a successful career working for the federal government in Washington D.C. as a computer programmer. He also served in the United States Army and spent time stationed in Ft. Bragg, N.C., Taiwan and Hawaii.

After retirement, Bob longed for the peaceful life of Idaho. He and his wife, Kathy relocated from Annapolis, Md. to Hayden in 2001 and enjoyed the beauty of the area.

Although Bob was very much a "homebody" he enjoyed traveling with his wife to Europe, Caribbean, Mexico and throughout the United States. He enjoyed sports and socializing, although his greatest love was gardening and he had that "green thumb."

Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy Michel of Hayden, his sister, Elsie "Rusty" Cunningham & brother in-law Wayne Cunningham, of Seal Beach, Calif.; sister-in-laws: Delores Michel of Post Falls, Evelyn Michel of Sterling, Colo.; cousin Allison Heron of Kenmore, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father,

Jacob, mother, Elizabeth, and brothers, Harold and Edward.

Bob will be most remembered as a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be greatly missed.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path." Prov. 3:5,6.

Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho and Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake, Wash.
