Joan Elaine (Avery) Heller, 77

| September 29, 2010 1:23 PM

After an extended illness, Joan Elaine (Avery) Heller passed peacefully in the early hours of Sept. 25, 2010. Joan was preceeded in death by her parents, Earl and Beth Avery of Bonners Ferry; her brother Leon and her youngest child, Arno D. Heller. She is survived by her brother, Donald Avery in Western Washington; two sons; two daughters; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Copeland, ID, on May 25, 1933; her youth was spent on the family farm where she became active in the 4H program and eventually won a trip to Chicago for her projects in forestry and leadership.

In Coeur d'Alene, Joan became a 30 year member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and retired as an Idaho State employee of the Liquor Dispensary. Joan was a consummate seamstress. She could alter and repair anything from jeans to motorcycle and Skidoo seats. Most importantly, no child left her home hungry or in need of clothing.

The family wishes to acknowledge Hospice of North Idaho for their unswerving concern and care of Mom in her final months. We also want to thank the staff and residents of LaCrosse Rehabilitation Center for their care and companionship during the last days of her illness.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with Joan's final arrangements. At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice of North Idaho would be gratefully acknowledged. Please visit Joan's online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
