David E. Johnson, 87

David E. Johnson, age 87, passed away at Well Springs Meadows in Hayden on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010.

David was born in Trail,Minn., on January 30th, 1923, to Peter A. & Inga (Egeland) Johnson. He moved to North Idaho in 1939 from Trail, Minn. David worked on the Alaska Highway & joined the US Army in 1943. He served in the 11th Airborne Division as a para-trooper in the Philippine Liberation & Occupation of Japan. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Coeur d'Alene, where he spent the rest of his life.

David married Hazel J. Adreen on October 1946 in Coeur d'Alene.

He was the owner of Dave's Drywall from 1952 to 1990 when he retired.

He was a member of the VFW & Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, fishing trips to Alaska and spending time at Priest Lake.

He is survived by three children; Son, Steve (Trista) Johnson of Dalton Gardens, ID; Daughters: Lonna (Randy) Duncan of Hayden, ID & Marsha (Tom) Dornquast of Post Falls, ID; Grandchildren: Eric (Carie) Duncan, Brian (Erica) Duncan, Chris (Alyssa) Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Hanna Johnson, Michael Dornquast & Lauren Dornquast; Great-Grandchildren: Nickolas Duncan, Darby & Emersen Duncan, & Conner Johnson; Sister Florence (Louis) Traverso; and several nieces & nephews.

David is preceded in death by his wife Hazel, four brothers, four sisters and a special pet ‘Kemo'.

The memorial service was Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at 4 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. With a reception to follow.
