Coeur d'Alene Resort elected "Best in the West"

The Coeur d'Alene Resort has been chosen as one of the favorite hotel properties of readers of Meetings West magazine.Top national meeting planners termed the facility "outstanding" among all properties in the Western U.S., Western Canada and Mexico, in the company's annual "Best of the West" award.

"Competition was steep," said Karen Smith, vice president at San Francisco-based Meetings West. "The Coeur d'Alene Resort was one of just 50 awarded in the western region."The Resort has received the award for 14 years.

"The thing we hear, over and over again, from our meeting planners is how much they love having amenities of this level in such a beautiful natural setting," said Jason Jaeger, director of sales and marketing for The Coeur d'Alene Resort. "We have something pretty special here."Hagadone Corp. owns both The Coeur d'Alene Resort and the Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls Press.

Guswiler joins Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty

Brian "Gus" Guswiler has joined Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty. He has 25 years of experience in residential real estate, coordinating new home construction and lending. Guswiler owned and operated Capital Mortgage Inc. and Advanced Building Technology Inc. He also was previously employed by General Electric Capital.

Guswiler teamed up with Reshel Cowan to form ColdwellBankerCDA, 1924 Northwest Blvd., in Coeur d'Alene. ColdwellBankerCDA is a division of Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty.

Kootenai Alliance for Children names executive director

Kerri Wilfong has been named executive director of Kootenai Alliance for Children and Families, a 15-year-old organization dedicated to fostering a safe, healthy, drug-free community through partnerships and programs. Wilfong has a background in banking, investment and business development.Wilfong, of Coeur d'Alene, is a charter member of the Coeur d'Alene Evening Rotary and has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

Higgins receives Bronze Award

Matthew Higgins, financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, in Coeur d'Alene, has received a Bronze Award for his production. He specializes in financial security planning.Silver Needle Inc., of Kellogg, was presented with the Lean Manufacturing Spirit of Continuous Innovation Award from TechHelp for its work with TechHelp in improving efficiency, safety and production.

Silver Needle gets lean honor

Silver Needle, which is a manufacturer of safety and fire-resistant clothing and a consultant in on-the-job safety, was recognized by state Sen. Joyce Broadsword for working with TechHelp and using the "principles of lean" to improve efficiency and lead times. Silver Needle was formed out of the home of Larry and Brenda Stinson, and it now employs 35 people.

Williams to speak at breakfast

North Idaho College athletics director Al Williams will be the featured speaker at the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce Upbeat Breakfast at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.Upbeat Breakfast occurs the second Tuesday of every month. With a reservation, the cost is $13 and includes breakfast and coffee.

Williams has been the Cardinals' athletics director since 2003, and has more than 20 years of management experience in financial administration and 13 years of experience in coaching and athletics administration.
