WATERSHED: Why it's a huge deal

| September 26, 2010 10:00 PM

The Hauser Lake Watershed Coalition's recent annual Poker Run Fundraiser was highly successful, due in large part, because our local merchants donated close to $3,000 worth of raffle prizes. This demonstrates that these enlightened local businesses realize it is essential to support and protect Idaho's fragile water quality status. This is a "no brainer" considering that tourism is a $3 billion industry here in Idaho and total lodging tax collections for fiscal 2010 was $6.26 million dollars. Anything that takes away from that financial source greatly affects every aspect of this state's livelihood.

Hauser Lake, a small community, user friendly lake was classified as impaired and in a state of deterioration; however the HLWC has been attending to the problem. The message is clear..."so goes the health of a lake...so goes the property values and all its natural beauty down the drain".

Therefore, the HLWC champions the local merchants who choose to support our efforts in maintaining Hauser Lake's water quality and help set the standard for other lake communities to follow. The Coalition proudly recognizes these local businesses who embrace our motto "Caring Enough to Make a Difference." Please say thank you to the local merchants listed in our thank you ad by shopping locally.

P.S. Hope to see you all at the Chef in the Forest's grand opening in November!
