| September 24, 2010 9:00 PM

AMERICAN LEAGUE

B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford each drove in two runs in a seven-run sixth inning, and the visiting Tampa Bay Rays knocked around CC Sabathia in his much-anticipated rematch with David Price and beat the New York Yankees 10-3 Thursday night.

Price labored through six innings but Sabathia struggled even more. The Rays beat New York for the second straight day, splitting the four-game set and pulling within a half-game of the Yankees in the AL East.

The victory gave Tampa Bay a 10-8 season series edge - the first tiebreaker to decide the division if the teams are all square after 162 games. The Rays finish the year by playing Seattle, Baltimore and Kansas City. The Yankees have six games against Boston and three at Toronto.

Athletics 5, Rangers 0: Dallas Braden allowed one hit in eight innings and host Oakland stalled Texas' push for its first AL West title since 1999.

Royals 4, Indians 2: Kansas City's Joakim Soria converted his 33rd straight save in a victory at Cleveland.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cardinals 9, Pirates 2: Albert Pujols hit his 40th and 41st home runs, leading slumping St. Louis at Pittsburgh.

St. Louis' chances of defending its NL Central title remain slim. The Cardinals trail idle Cincinnati by 7? games with only 10 left.

Nationals 7, Astros 2: Ross Detwiler earned his first win in nearly a year as host Washington beat Houston.

Brewers 8, Marlins 3: Corey Hart hit one of three Milwaukee homers and in a win over visiting Florida.

Dodgers 3, Padres 1: Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight superb innings, Andre Ethier had two run-scoring hits and host Los Angeles sent San Diego back into second place in the NL West.

The Padres fell a half-game behind San Francisco.

Giants 13, Cubs 0: Juan Uribe hit a grand slam and a two-run homer, leading San Francisco at Chicago.

Diamondbacks 10, Rockies 9: At Phoenix, Steven Drew homered and had four RBIs, leading Arizona past Colorado.

Colorado leaves the desert 3? games behind San Francisco in the NL West and Atlanta in the wild-card race.
