Mallon picked in Hauser

HAUSER - The Hauser City Council on Wednesday night unanimously appointed former Hauser Mayor Gary Mallon to fill the council seat vacated by Ed Peone.

Mallon was Hauser's mayor for three and a half years in the early 1990s and is retired from the military.

He will be sworn in by the council on Oct. 13 and finish out the seat's term, which ends November 2011.

Peone, who was Hauser's mayor for 14 years and spent six total years on the council during three different stints, resigned, citing family illnesses.

Mallon was Mayor Olita "Oly" Johnston's third recommendation to fill the seat.

The council turned down Carol Spuler and Dave Nall earlier, both on 2-1 votes.
