Friebe sparks Trojans to win

VOLLEYBALL

LEWISTON - Brianna Friebe had 20 digs and four aces as the Post Falls Trojans defeated the Lewiston Bengals 14-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 in a 5A Inland Empire League match Thursday night at Booth Hall.

"It was a great volleyball match," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We played very well as a team tonight. Everything kind of clicked together for us. Lewiston played well also - which made it a great match to coach and watch."

Ashley Jibby had 13 kills, Tori Bertsch had 18 assists and Sierra Monti had five blocks for Post Falls (18-1, 4-0 5A IEL), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Lewiston falls to 15-3, 1-2.

COEUR d'ALENE - Kylie Curtis had eight kills and four aces for the Vikings in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-7 win over the Bears at Elmer Jordan Court.

"We were swinging and blocking a lot better tonight," Coeur d'Alene coach Carly Curtis said.

Demi Johnson had 22 assists, Sydney Williams had five blocks and Ashley Hammons had nine assists for Coeur d'Alene (8-11), which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

Amy Westberg had 12 assists, Casey Williams had four kills and Taylor Charles had six assists for Moscow.

ST. MARIES - Mariah Gladden had 12 kills as the Lumberjacks defeated the Tigers 25-15, 25-11, 25-15 in an Intermountain League match.

Marlee Masterson had 11 kills and three aces, Tia Asbury 16 digs and Jaylee Sines 28 assists for St. Maries (12-2, 4-0 IML), which travels to Lakeland on Saturday for a tri-match with the Hawks and Riverside.

Amanda Swanson had 11 digs, Brooke Murray had seven assists and two aces and Madi Hauck had three kills for Timberlake (10-4, 1-2), which hosts Priest River on Tuesday.

Bonners Ferry

KELLOGG - The Wildcats rebounded from a first-set loss to beat the visiting Badgers in IML play at Andrews Gymnasium.

The Badgers took the first set 25-17, but Kellogg (7-1, 3-1 IML) dominated the rest of the night, winning the next three games 25-14, 25-12, 25-14.

Britney Jacobs posted seven kills, Shayna Waechter and Christina Gibbs each had three aces, and Waechter and Samantha Squires each had four digs. Taylor Samuelson had 59 assists.

"I thought we finished strong," Kellogg coach Crystal Luna said. "A lot of people stepped up when they needed to."

Kellogg plays host to Timberlake next Thursday.

Markayle Accord had seven kills and five aces to lead the Badgers.

HARRISON FLATS - Joelle Miller had nine kills and seven blocks for the visiting Knights in a 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 win over the Warriors in a North Star League match.

Jennifer Mitchell had 24 assists and five aces, Maria Garcia seven digs and Kyndra McCully five aces for Lakeside (5-1, 4-1), which travels to Wallace on Tuesday.

Olivia Kincheloe had nine digs, Ana Parker four assists and Ellison Schultz four kills for Kootenai (1-5, 0-5), which visits Clark Fork on Tuesday.

MULLAN - Celeste Komanec had 31 assists for the Wampus Cats in a 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 16-14 win over the Tigers in a North Star League match at the Mullan Pavilion.

Mariah Miller had 13 kills and Demi Kailang had three blocks for Clark Fork (7-2, 5-0 NSL), which hosts Kootenai on Tuesday.

Kami McKinnon had nine kills and three aces, Nikki Axtman had nine kills and Sydni Kotschevar had 12 assists for Mullan (5-3, 2-3), which travels to play the Coeur d'Alene freshman team Monday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Kana Shanley totaled nine kills and seven aces as the Royals beat the Eagles 25-7, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16 in Mountain Christian League play at Project CDA.

Courtney Lawson had 14 assists, Desi Reardon 16 digs for North Idaho Christian (3-1 Mountain Christian League, 3-1), which plays at Grace Bible today in Hayden.

WALLACE - Emily Verhaeghe had 13 kills and six digs for the Panthers in a 25-21, 10-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-8 nonleague win over the Miners.

Brianna Marshall had 29 assists, eight aces and three kills, Lexi Turkenburg had six kills and seven digs and Allysa Cozzens had five kills and four blocks for Coeur d'Alene Charter (1-10), which hosts Mullan on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic School.

COEUR d'ALENE - The host Timberwolves answered Sandpoint's goal with two in the next five minutes to beat the Bulldogs at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Chris Wheelock scored the go-ahead goal for Lake City (6-2-1). Mason Sanchez sent in a free kick from 35 yards out and Wheelock, racing in from the right, headed it into the net from 8 yards out.

"I didn't know what to think coming in, we had kind of a rough spell last week," said Lake City coach Chad Beadell, whose team lost 4-0 to Coeur d'Alene and tied Northwest Christian. "But the guys bounced back."

Jansen Rinck scored for Sandpoint (8-4-1) five minutes into the second half.

Lake City plays host to Lewiston on Saturday.

"For a patched together team, I thought we played well," said Kellogg coach Steve Mills, whose team was missing five starters. "To get a win is always nice."

Chelsea Thaut had five saves for St. Maries (0-11-1, 0-6-1), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

BONNERS FERRY - Hailey Emerson had a goal and an assist as the visiting Tigers overcame an early goal by the Badgers - and a blast from their cannon.

"We played really flat against Lakeland (a 7-1 loss), and I really challenged the team tonight," Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. "That first goal was kind of a wakeup call; I told my girls I don't want to hear that cannon again. I was real proud of the girls tonight."

Timberlake plays host to Orofino on Saturday.
