Stand Down to aid veterans Saturday

POST FALLS - The North Idaho Veterans Stand Down will serve veterans in need and their families from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Idaho National Guard armory, 5453 E. Seltice Way.

The free event will include brunch from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., service providers, clothing, medical assistance, fresh produce, haircuts, showers, veterinary services and bicycle repairs.

"We served 1,280 veterans and dependents last year," said Robert Shoeman of the Idaho Department of Labor, one of the sponsors. "The numbers will likely increase this year."

Veterans should bring their DD214, Veterans Administration card or military identification.

Autism society plans conference

The Panhandle Autism Society is presenting the "Supporting Diversity in the Classroom," conference on Friday, Oct. 8.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Tyler T. Whitney, clinical director for the Intermountain Center for Autism and Child Development in Meridian.

The conference will be at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center. Early registration is $100 through Sept. 25.
