Doris Arlene Samuelson, 80

Doris Arlene Samuelson was born March 22, 1930, to C.E. "Buzz" Darfler and Margaret Moline Darfler in Helena, Mont.

She graduated from Helena High School in 1948 and worked at Union Bank, where she met her future husband Gordon A. Samuelson. They married on Nov. 17, 1952, in Helena.

She is survived by her five children: Mark A. and Marty Samuelson of Helena; Gary A. and Laura Samuelson of Nome, Alaska; Caroly and Donald Gant of Spokane Valley, Wash.; Shelley and Ron Zielinski of Dalton Gardens; and Breck A. Samuelson and Debbie Miller of Coeur d'Alene. Dorie is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sister, Clarece and her husband, Gordon.

Dorie enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren, knitting, sewing and fishing. She had fond memories of hunting with her father in Montana and was an original member of the KVNI Bunny Slipper Club. She is also known as "The Hat Lady" at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she has been a member since 1975. Her church activities included making holiday lefse and performing with the bell choir. Her main love was her home in Hayden Lake, dubbed "Dorie's Do-Drop Inn," which became a second home for her loved ones and friends. Her last six years were spent living at the Beehive in Coeur d'Alene. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Beehive for the love and care provided to Dorie in her final years.

Viewing will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d'Alene. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene.
