Robert Milton Mongrain, 85

| September 20, 2010 2:33 PM

Sept. 22, 1924 - Sept. 14, 2010

Bob, as he was known, was born to parents Milton and Julia Mongrain in Helena, Mont. He grew up in Montana along with his sister, Lois.

Bob went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Navy in WWII. After his service, he attended Carrol College where he met his future wife Peggy. They fell in love, married and Bob went to Dental school to become a DDS. The two eventually moved to San Diego, Calif., where Bob had a successful practice and they raised their four children.

After retirement, Bob moved back up to Montana, where he built his dream cabin in the woods, just east of Lincoln, Mont. He lived happily there for more than 20 years. His family has many cherished memories of visiting him there. He enjoyed his dogs, snowmobiling and logging in the woods around his cabin until he was 82 years old. During this time, Bob's faith grew and his devotion to our Lord and the Virgin Mary was demonstrated in his daily life.

Bob's last few years were spent in Coeur d'Alene where he finally came to rest in the arms of our Lord. He was preceded in death by Peggy Mongrain on Aug. 13, 2010.

He is survived by his son, Stephen, and his three daughters: Michelle, Maureen and Susan. He is also survived by four grandchildren and his beloved sister Lois Otto.

Bob will be missed and remembered by his quiet strength, his love and devotion to the Lord and the Virgin Mary, as well as his many creative talents.

Special thanks to Hospice to North Idaho, whose care and compassion were of such value when needed.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 Indiana Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
