Richard Gilbertson, 73

Richard "Reg" W. Gilbertson passed away on Sept. 6, 2010, in Boise, at the age of 73, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Reg was born in Chisholm, Minn., on Jan. 11, 1937, to Wallace O. Gilbertson and Lillian H. (Nelson) Gilbertson. He graduated from high school in Chisholm, Minn., class of 1955 and attended Bemidji State College in Bemidji, Minn.

He wed the love of his life, Karen Kay Rajala, on June 18, 1960, in Virginia, Minn. They moved to Minot, N.D., for several years before moving to Las Vegas. He was a court reporter in Las Vegas for many years and then moved to Pinehurst, Idaho, to raise his family. After the loss of his beloved wife in 1997, he retired and moved to Boise.

Reg is survived by his daughter Lisa Bush of Boise; his son Bryant Gilbertson of Centerville, Va.; his grandchildren Darrin and Samantha Bush and Brieana and Bryce Gilbertson; his sisters Sandy Novak of Chisholm, Minn., and Sue Slominski of Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews Cheryl (Novak) Madrinich, Ronald Novak, Jr., Leane Slominski and David Slominski. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Gilbertson.

The family will have a celebration of his life on Sept. 23, 2010, at the home of Lisa Bush in Boise. Any memorials may be made to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, Boise.
