GOP: Burning up the nation

| September 17, 2010 5:35 AM

This country remains perched on the edge of disaster and all the Republicans can do is stand back and yell "Burn, Baby, Burn!" Not long ago their contradiction was illustrated so well in the statement "We have to reduce the deficit and we also should continue the Bush tax cuts." Now if you look at the record, the Bush tax cuts are what produced the ballooning deficit in the first place, that together with two unfunded wars and an unfunded Medicare Part D! When the commentator suggested the contradiction, the Republican said he was comparing Apples and Oranges. He saw no contradiction.

Was he too dumb to know the difference? I must admit that it was fairly easy for me to consider that conclusion but to be fair, I decided that I had to dig deeper.

It is quite clear that we will have to cut spending significantly if we are going to reduce the deficit and continue the Bush tax cuts. The military? No, Republicans never reduce the military budget.

The only thing left of any size is Social Security and Medicare. Behind the scenes their question is not "Should we cut Social Security and Medicare?," but rather "HOW MUCH should we cut Social Security and Medicare?" They don't want to talk about it, but if they get in that is what they will try to do!

Social Security and Medicare are at risk if Republicans gain national control!
