ENGLISH: Exemplifies service to community

| September 17, 2010 5:38 AM

I am writing to urge your vote in November to retain Dan English in the office of Kootenai County Clerk.

I have known Dan since 1986, three years after he founded the Anchor House, a home for troubled boys, still at its original site on Government Way in Coeur d'Alene. After much personal sacrifice to get the program started and assuring its long-term financial stability through merger with Idaho Youth Ranch, Dan went on to serve the community in other ways. He has served honorably and responsibly in the elected position of County Clerk for the past 15 years. In this office he oversees 90 employees in the Auditor's Office, Assessor's Office, District Court, Elections and Recorder's Office.

The smooth and honest conduct of the elections is an excellent example of his commitment to innovation, customer service and stewardship of taxpayer dollars. While he has consistently garnered attention as the lone elected Democrat in a county office, he has run his office in a non-partisan manner.

In the past he joined other county clerks throughout Idaho to support the adoption of "vote by mail," a democracy-enhancing elections practice, and true to his ability to look at the bigger picture, he is currently serving as the Chair of the 110-member board of the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission Standards Board. Because of his experience, dedication, non-partisan stance and good stewardship, Dan English deserves your vote for retention in the office of Kootenai County Clerk in the November election. Cast your vote for Dan English!
