COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Vikings turned up their defensive intensity and pushed past the Lake City Timberwolves 4-0 in a 5A Inland Empire League boys soccer match at Coeur d'Alene High on Wednesday afternoon.

"We came out really hard and fast today," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Lake said. "We showed some real intensity for most of the first half and kind of let down before halftime."

Coeur d'Alene (6-1-1, 3-0 5A IEL) midfielder Drew Morgan scored on an assist from Matt Hulquist in the ninth minute to take an early lead.

Forward Adam Borsheim scored goals in the 45th and 47th minute to stretch the Viking advantage.

"I've always came into this game wanting to play hard," Borsheim said. "Our entire team played hard. We kind of made it a goal to come out in the second half and take the match from them."

Borsheim added a goal on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to close out the scoring.

"Everyone has there jobs on the team," Borsheim said. "I've was the leading goal scorer last year and am again this season so I want to go and do my job."

Coeur d'Alene lost starting goalkeeper Keagan Schillington in the 51st minute due to an ankle injury, leaving Roland Yetter to finish the shutout.

"Jimmy (Keith) got hurt before the match today, so we went to Keagan," Lake said. "When he rolled his ankle, we put Roland in there to finish up. We've got three really good keepers."

Tanner Horton had six saves for Lake City (5-2, 1-1), which travels to Northwest Christian.
