Stanley Norman West, 72, passed away on Aug. 19, 2010, from coronary artery disease at Kootenai Medical Center with his longtime friend, Deborah Rose, at his side. Stan was born on Dec. 19, 1937, in Heavener, Okla., to Clarence and Edna West. He lived his early years in central California. Stan spent his adult years in western Washington until he moved to Athol, Idaho eight years ago.

Stan served in the U.S. Army in Germany for four years. He married Lee Aldirch in 1962; they later divorced. Out of his union with Lee, Stan was blessed with three children Trish Wolden, Stanley Jr., and Steve, all of Olympia, Wash. He later also called square dances in Idaho and Eastern Washington. He was a member of the Spokane callers and cuers association, the American Callers Association and the Shirts n Skirts square dancing club of Post Falls. He danced with many clubs around Idaho and across Washington, most recently in Spokane and Newman Lake. He gave much help to new dancers and callers; he will be missed by all those whose life he touched.

Stan worked at Lowe's in Coeur d'Alene for the past eight years until May when his health rapidly declined.

Stan is survived by his brothers, Richard West of Centralia, Hershel West, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Tim of Redding, Calif., and his sister Marilyn of Stockton, Calif. Stan was preceded in death by a sister, Janice, and his parents.
