POST FALLS - Angela Alexander saw an opportunity brewing in the central part of Post Falls.

And she didn't have to look far to find the location.

Alexander has opened the Coffee Cottage Coffee House at 1115 N. Spokane Street next to her drive-thru Coffee Cottage Coffee Hut.

She said closures of other sit-down coffee/sandwich shops nearby gave her the idea of opening the Old English-themed coffee house.

"The only thing that Post Falls has that's sit-down (coffee house-related) is on Highway 41," she said.

Alexander said she's learned from long-time locals that the building was moved from the Naval station at Farragut State Park.

"We've renovated it to create something with a warm, comfortable atmosphere that offers something for the whole family," she said. "But we wanted to maintain its historical value."

One customer recently told Alexander that he remembers playing in the house as a child.

Alexander said that during the renovation local newspapers from the 1920s were found in the walls that were used as insulation. Alexander has laminated the papers for customers to view about the way times were.

In addition to coffees, the business offers pastries and sandwiches.

"We offer 'lite fare,' and we spell it that way, keeping with the English theme," Alexander said.

The business has a conference room that can seat up to 20 people and be rented. There's also an outdoor patio for seating and wireless Internet access.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
