Spaghetti dinner fundrasier planned

The Rathdrum Senior Center is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. Friday.

It is all-you-can eat and includes salad, vegetables, dessert and beverage. Cost is $5.50, with proceeds going toward equipment and building maintenance.

The senior center is on the corner of Montana Street and Highway 41.

Honda dealer to host chili cook-off

The 14th annual Chili Cook-Off and Benefit for Children's Village is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Coeur d'Alene Honda Powersports, 2745 Seltice Way.

About 20 chili cooking teams will be preparing their chili for cash prizes and bragging rights for North Idaho's best chili recipe.

First place for the best chili is $350; second is $250, third is $150 and people's choice is $100.

There will also be music, prizes and activities for kids.

A $5 donation for chili tasting is requested. There will be $2 tickets for a drawing to win a Honda scooter or generator.

Since the chili cook-off began, it has raised more than $25,000 for Children's Village.

Cd'A Chess Club to meet Saturday

The Coeur d'Alene Chess Club will meet noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

The club formed earlier this year now has about 40 members. New players who register receive wheat pennies and foreign coins.

Anyone is welcome to come out.

Joshi Kairav is the club's tournament director and president.

"Our chess club goal continues to be one of the most entertaining clubs in town, as well to introduce new players to the wonderful game of chess with free lessons," according to a press release.

The club hopes to compete with other clubs at United States Chess Federation events and hold a tournament in November.

Berns to speak at Democratic Club

The latest in Lake City Development plans will be presented by Executive Director Tony Berns and Board Chair Denny Davis at the Friday meeting of the Democratic Club.

The meeting will begin at noon at the Iron Horse Restaurant, 407 Sherman Ave.

The public is welcome.

Story times set at Post Falls Library

Free storytime programs for toddlers and preschoolers will be held at the Post Falls Public Library starting this month.

Storytime for preschoolers ages 3 to 6 will be held on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. starting Sept. 22.

The lapsit program for ages infant to 3 is on Thursdays from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. starting Sept. 23.

An adult caregiver is required to accompany each child at both programs.

The literacy playgroup program featuring stories, songs, crafts and snacks for ages birth to 5 will be held on Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. starting Oct. 1.

Elks Lodge to host chili cook-off

The Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge No. 1254's annual chili cook-off and salsa contest is noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be music, a beer garden, crafts, and drawings for prizes. Families are welcome.

For $5, adults can try some of the best chili and salsa in the Northwest.

The lodge is at 1170 W. Prairie Ave.
