John “Jack” M. Holst, 62

| September 15, 2010 10:00 PM

John M. Holst passed away at age 62 after a long battle with asthma and a tired but happy heart. He spent his last few weeks surrounded by family in celebration. John was a memorable, outgoing man like no other, making friends wherever he went. He had a passion for the mountains and nature that could never be adequately expressed; this is where he found his spirit and peace. As a young man he spent his time rock climbing, ocean diving, frog jumping, backpacking, river rafting and fly fishing. Later, his energy focused more on hunting and packing horses - a true mountain man, instilling the value of a great adventure in many.

By trade, John was a commercial drywall contractor, but possessed many diverse skills. Jack was a teacher at heart and took pride in mentoring young people at work, in the wilderness, and in life. He believed in hard work and earning your way. He challenged people to live life to the fullest.

Jack did everything in a big way, including loving his family and friends wholeheartedly. He is survived by his father John L. Holst, wife Joyce Gail of 38 years, and precious children Brooke and Daren, youngest brother Jeffery, and only sister Lynda Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his dear mother Esther, and is sorely missed brothers Mark and Steve.

In spite of his rough edges, he was blessed with many valuable long-lasting friendships that became extensions of what he considered his family. This extended family will be holding a memorial service at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

Immediately following, another gathering will be held at the Ponderosa Springs Golf Course, at 1291 N. Galena Drive, Coeur d'Alene, to remember the adventures and rich moments in his life. Please visit Jack's online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
