TIME WARNER: Not the only game in town

| September 12, 2010 10:00 PM

My husband and I were surprised to find our Time Warner bill had jumped from $135.19 in August to $155.61 in September. We have broadband, phone service and digital cable (no premium channels). After a little research, I discovered we could save $44.23 per month by switching to VoIP.com for our phone and Direct TV for cable (that's $530 a year, includes free voicemail and more TV channels). I called Time Warner and told them I would be canceling everything but broadband. The agent asked if I would reconsider and put me on hold. After waiting no less than 10 minutes for the agent to talk to her superviser, they offered to reduce my bill by $20 a month. Not good enough, so I cancelled. I would switch broadband carriers gladly if there were another option, but hopefully Time Warner will get the message that when it comes to phone and television services, they are not the only game in town and need to be more competitive.
