NIC wins volleyball tourney in Spokane

SPOKANE - North Idaho College defeated Walla Walla Community College 25-23, 25-9, 20-25, 25-19 to win the Inland Northwest Communications Tournament at Spokane Falls Community College.

NIC defeated Mount Hood Community College 20-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18, Spokane 22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22, Walla Walla Community College 25-23, 25-9, 20-25, 25-19 in pool play on Saturday.

Tina Strahinic had 16 kills and seven digs, Fei Gao 12 kills, Gabriella Rifilato 44 assists and Esther Timofeyev had two blocks against Mount Hood.

Against the Sasquatch, Strahinic had 21 kills and two blocks, Rifilato had 36 assists and 14 digs and Gao 14 kills on 15 chances for NIC.

Strahinic had 13 kills against Walla Walla, Danielle Hodge 10 kills, Rifilato 24 assists and six aces, Brenna Peterson 18 assists and Kyona Hunt six digs for NIC.

Strahinic, Danielle Hodge, Rifilato and Kaylee Ponce were named to the all-tournament team for NIC (10-4), which travels to the Southern Idaho Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
