CHARITY: Support local supporters

| September 10, 2010 10:00 PM

I was eating dinner at Texas Roadhouse recently when I ran into Dan Davis, the proprietor of the restaurant. I went to thank him for his support of all of my charitable endeavors, as I organize lots of fundraisers for various causes.

Everything I have ever requested from him for my events, I have gotten - and more. It made me think that people like him should be recognized for their generosity, and it is so important when you make a choice to purchase a product, service, etc. to support those local companies who give back to the community. These companies make a conscious effort to make a difference in the community. When you participate in a charity event take notice of the sponsors and donors, and do what you can to support them. This not only rewards the companies for the generosity, but it sends a message to the business community that philanthropy is something our community values. In general, it is important to support locally-owned companies, even simply for the fact that the money they earn gets spent back in the community.
