Sportsmen to discuss wolf issue

RATHDRUM - The Sportsmen for Freedom Wild Game Feed is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Golden Spikes Estate Clubhouse, 8580 Yosemite St.

The main topic will be the Canadian gray wolf crisis in Idaho.

"Come and learn about the impact the Canadian gray wolves are having on Idaho hunters, ranchers, outfitters, outdoor enthusiasts, tourism, rural lifestyle and state and local economy not to mention the serious health hazards to humans imposed by these wolves," according to a press release.

There will also be discussion about upcoming proposed legislation to deal with this crisis from two of Idaho's "most freedom friendly legislators."

Guest speakers include Scott Rockholm with Save Western Wildlife; Patrick Wood with Idaho-SAFE; and state Reps. Dick Harwood and Phil Hart.

Tickets will be available at the door. The suggested donation is $15.

River Rendezvous show starts today

POST FALLS - PT Cruisers will be on display in Post Falls today and Saturday and raising funds for the North Idaho Youth Ranch and Spokane YWCA Safehouse in the process.

The Coeur d'Alene Area PT Cruiser Club and the Northwest Cruisers of Spokane are sponsoring the first River Rendezvous, a PT Cruiser show, at Templin's Red Lion Hotel.

"All non-club affiliated PT Cruiser owners and the public are invited," said Post Falls' Ken Leight, an organizer. "Any profits are forwarded to two worthy charities."

PT Cruisers from throughout the country and Canada have been invited to show their vehicles and compete for trophies.

A PT Cruiser parade to the Hot Rod Cafe will be held at 5:15 p.m. today after a meet and greet. A neon car show will be held at 8 p.m. at Templin's, followed by a neon party inside the hotel at 9 p.m.

All local PT Cruiser owners who are not affiliated with a club are invited to enter their cars in the open division for free.

Car registration begins at 7 a.m. Saturday. The cars will be displayed for viewing and judging between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The public is welcome.

A car cruise around Lake Coeur d'Alene will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday for any PT Cruisers.

Kootenai fire prevention co-op receives grant

The Kootenai County Fire Prevention Co-op received a $1,500 2010 Idaho License Plate Grant which is awarded by the Idaho Fire Chief's Association.

The funds will allow the co-op to purchase collapsible buckets with a campfire safety message that will be given out at community events.
