Punt, Pass and Kick

set for McEuen Field

The Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department will hold its annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Friday. at McEuen Field.

The competition is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15.

Registration starts at 4 p.m., with the competition to begin at 4:30.

Individual tickets for the Spokane Chiefs' 2010-11 season will go on sale today at 9 a.m.

Spokane will play 25 home weekend dates, including 16 on Saturday nights. Spokane will open the home portion of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 2 when Tri-City visits the Arena.

Tickets are also available for the Jan. 15, 2011, Rockstar Outdoor Hockey Classic when the Chiefs host the Kootenay Ice at Avista Stadium.

Blaze hire former

Shock coordinator

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announced that former Spokane Shock offensive coordinator Matt Sauk will join their coaching staff for the 2011 season.

"We are very pleased to have Matt Sauk join the Blaze with a wealth of his experience in the AFL both as a player and a coach, not to mention his recent Arena Bowl championship," Utah head coach Ron James said. "He will be a tremendous asset to our organization and we look forward to an exciting 2011 campaign."

Sauk joins the Blaze after aiding in the Spokane Shock's victory over the Tampa Bay Storm in Arena Bowl XXIII. He originally joined the Shock of the af2 as their quarterback and receiver coach after being inducted into the af2 Hall of Fame.

Layne joins AFL as

new marketing officer

The Arena Football League formally announced that Stuart Layne, a former sports marketing and media veteran has been named the new chief marketing and revenue officer.

A native New Yorker, Layne graduated from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University and spent 12 years in broadcasting before marketing for the Seattle Mariners.

"We are thrilled to have found someone with Stuart's wide range of experiences," AFL commissioner Jerry Kurz said. "His national media background, success in corporate sponsorship development and his many years as a major league sports team marketer provides the league with a valuable resource on many levels."
