HAUSER - Dave Nall will be recommended to the Hauser City Council tonight at 6:30 to fill the council seat formerly held by Ed Peone.

Nall, owner of the Westside Resort, will be the second recommendation by Mayor Olita "Oly" Johnston for the position.

The council recently voted 2-1 to not appoint Carol Spuler to the board. Claire Hatfield and Laura Ward denied the recommendation while Lacey Hynes supported it.

Like Spuler, Johnston said she believes Nall is a good candidate because he's a longtime resident and has the future of the city in mind.

"He's very knowledgeable about small equipment and computers," Johnston said. "I think he could help us out in all kinds of ways. But, then again, I don't know what kind of vote (from the council) I'll get."

Johnston hopes she and the council see eye to eye on the second choice.

"I certainly believe the position needs to be filled by a person who knows Hauser and the people who live here," she said.

The appointed person will fill the seat until November 2011, the end of Peone's two-year term.

Peone said he resigned last month due to illnesses in the family.

"I have a couple sick kids, and my home life is taking too much of my time," he said. "A lot of personal things are going on here. I won't say that I'm happy with things at the city, but the reason I left was strictly for personal reasons. I just need to take care of business at home."

Peone was mayor for 14 years and spent six total years on the council during three different stints. He was appointed to the council about a year and a half ago before being elected last November.
