RIGHTS: No exception to American tradition

| September 8, 2010 10:00 PM

Whether it's defending the civil rights of Aryans to peacefully march down our downtown streets or defending the legal right of a religion to build a community center on land they own with the proper zoning and building permits.

Defending the right to a fair trial for accused terrorists, rather than the type of military show trials that were done under Hitler and Stalin.

Defending the legal, Supreme Court-affirmed right of women to have control over the number of blastocysts/embryos/fetuses they conceive.

Defending gay Americans' rights to the same legal and civil rights heterosexual Americans demand for themselves.

Defending the civil rights for all Americans, be we ebony, ivory, tan, gold and ginger.

Thirty years of human rights support may lead you into supporting the civil rights of individuals and groups you may never have imagined you would be called upon by your morality to support. But you do it because it is the right action, the just action, the moral action.
