Community United Methodist Church

The fall lineup of new events at Community United Methodist Church, 1470 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene begins this Sunday, with Welcome Sunday.

Each worship service, 8:30 and 11 a.m., will begin with a "Blessing of the Backpacks." All students are invited to bring their backpacks and bookbags to start the 2010-11 school year off right with a special blessing.

There will be an All-Church Breakfast from 9:15-10:45 a.m. The Acts of Kindness group will serve breakfast, with proceeds going to help fund summer camp scholarships. The Jr. Youth Group, grades 3,4,5, their siblings, and friends will have their first get-together at the church from 3-4:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 for special, fun activities.

The day will end with a new Community Worship at the Fort Grounds Chapel at the North Idaho College campus at 8 p.m. sponsored by Community United Methodist Church.

The Taize style worship of ancient tradition focuses on prayer, centering and quiet worship. All are welcome on the second Sunday of each month for this new Taize experience.

Community Night will begin the new season on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. Dinner is served to all followed by choir practice, children's activities, song team practice, a New Testament Study, and games.

The handbell choir will meet at 5:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate in any of the activities offered, which change regularly. The mid and senior high Fusion Youth Group will also meet each Wednesday night for dinner followed by their time to get acquainted and participate in a variety of fun activities as well as serving our community.

Church offers women's Bible study

Registration for a women's Bible study on the book of Isaiah is scheduled Monday, Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 at 6:45 p.m. at Hayden Lake Friends Church.

Classes are available for school-aged children.

Crain to perform at Calvary Lutheran

POST FALLS - Pianist Brian Crain will perform at Calvary Lutheran Church at 1011 N. Compton in Post Falls on Saturday from 1-3 p.m.

A free will offering will be taken. There will be coffee, dessert and tea.
