Missing Mivoden campers found dead

On 09-06-10 at approximately 1915 hours Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department and volunteer Search & Rescue personnel located the scene of a fatality motorcycle crash on Hayden Lake Road near Rhapsody Lane.

An extensive search took place throughout the day utilizing volunteer Search & Rescue members, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies and helicopter support from Spokane County Sheriff’s Department.

The find was an unfortunate conclusion to an extensive search for two missing subjects that had departed Camp Mivoden on Saturday September 04

th on a single motorcycle. Both the rider and passenger were deceased and located about 100 feet down a steep embankment in the timber. The people involved in the crash were identified in a previous press release as Virginia L. Acker 64 of Pasco WA and Gary E. Otterness 40 of Onalaska WA. Both people were wearing motorcycle helmets when the crash occurred. It is unknown if alcohol is a factor.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct the accident investigation and reconstruction.
