| September 7, 2010 8:17 PM

Lorna Jayne Sears, 86, of Coeur d'Alene, died peacefully Sept. 2, 2010, with family at her side. She was born May 14, 1924, in Spokane, Wash., to Justin and Grace (Renaud) Foss.

Lorna grew up in Spokane and was salutatorian of the North Central class of 1942. She graduated from WSU as one of the few women entering the pharmacy profession. She worked in California, where she met Chuck Sears. They were married in 1950 and opened a drugstore in Hayward, Calif.

Daughter Debbie was born in 1954 and Sallie in 1956. In 1963 they moved to Coeur d'Alene and bought Wilson Pharmacy. Wilson's became a hub of activity in downtown. People came not only for their prescriptions, but to chat with Chuck and Lorna. They were involved at First Presbyterian Church, served there in many capacities and touched many lives. Her community activities included serving on boards of Panhandle Health, Heritage Place, Idaho Pharmacy Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Sorenson Grandmas, Striders and Mothers Group.

Lorna greatly loved her grandchildren. She attended hundreds of events they participated in and was delighted to have them overnight. Lorna suffered from Alzheimer's but continued many activities until recently. She especially enjoyed a Monday night fellowship group. Her friends made sure she had rides, reminders and continued respect. Lorna received loving care at Coeur d'Alene Homes, whose staff and residents became family.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard; her husband, Chuck and daughter, Debbie Dlouhy.

She is survived by daughter, Sallie Sears (Brian Brothers) of Spokane; son-in-law Darrell Dlouhy of Coeur d'Alene; grandchildren, Matt Dlouhy, Katelyn Capaul and Hanna Brothers. She was considered family by the Brothers and Dlouhy families. She leaves relatives in the Puget Sound area and cousin Janet Critchley in Arizona. She is also survived by many longtime friends and colleagues in Coeur d'Alene.

Lorna will be remembered for her positive outlook, humor, her love of family, church and community, dogs and her resilient spirit.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church with Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, in care of the arrangements.
