Cardinal men start fast, win

COEUR d'ALENE - Diego Esquivias and Nick Shiner scored in the first 22 minutes, and North Idaho College went on to beat Treasure Valley Community College of Ontario, Ore., 2-1 in the Cardinal Classic on Sunday at Eisenwinter Field.

"We got off to a strong start, which we hadn't done in our last two matches," NIC coach Scott Moorcroft said. "I think we made some big steps forward."

In Sunday's other game, Chemeketa Community College of Salem, Ore., beat Laramie County Community College of Cheyenne, Wyo., 4-1.

NIC (2-1-1) plays at Evergreen State next Sunday in Olympia, Wash.

COEUR d'ALENE - The Cardinals outshot the Chukars 15-4 but had to settle for a draw at the Cardinal Classic at Eisenwinter Field.

"We possessed the ball well, but could not find a way past the Treasure Valley packed-in defense," NIC coach Dan Hogan said.

NIC's best chances came early in the first half when Hayley Smith missed with a left-footed shot wide of the goal, and late in the second half when Demi Wignot deflected a free kick from Charlie Evans just wide of the left post.

In Sunday's other game, Salt Lake Community College defeated Chemeketa 5-1.

NIC (2-1-1) travels to Evergreen State on Sunday.
