SCHOOL: Ridicule the 3-minute drill

| September 5, 2010 10:00 PM

I don't understand the Coeur d'Alene School District's reasoning on school schedules. At Lakes Magnet Middle School the students have three minutes between classes. Are you insane? Five minutes would be more appropriate.

The kids don't have time to go to their locker, go to the bathroom and get to class in three minutes. If they have to go up or downstairs to another class and to their locker, they will be late for class. Even if they don't have to use the stairs, three minutes is not enough time in those crowded hallways to get to class.

I've talked with a few students and they say some of their teachers tell them to "hold it" and they should have gone to the bathroom between class. But there is not enough time! Having kids "hold it" will cause health issues.

I think the school day should start at 7:45 a.m. like last year and then go until 2:45 p.m. and that would get the extra time to add two more minutes between classes. This way the kids will have five minutes between classes and can use the bathroom, go to their locker and still get to class on time.
