Franklin's Hoagies changes ownership

COEUR d'ALENE - No doubt the customers will miss the sarcasm and humor with their breakfast and lunch.

It's been almost 24 years in business for Hayden residents Larry and Pauline Anderson at their sandwich shop, Franklin's Hoagies.

Friday was their last day operating the iconic Coeur d'Alene restaurant, at the corner of Wallace Avenue and Fourth Street. Larry, 67, and Pauline, 62, said they are ready to retire.

They've sold Franklin's Hoagies, which occupies about 400 square feet of leased space.

"My landlord loves me," Larry said.

They said they owe all their success to their customers and can't thank them enough.

"They've been loyal to us from beginning to end," Pauline said.

Larry and Pauline have been in the restaurant business for 40 years. They previously owned Larry's 5 Cent Coffee shop, which is now Rockin' Robin Cafe, at 3650 N. Government Way.

They said they now plan to take a vacation along the Oregon Coast.

One of the new owners, Lynn Alexander, could not be reached immediately for comment Friday. The Andersons said the restaurant will remain open with some minor changes, including being open on weekends and accepting credit and debit payments.
